Back In Town

I stormed back to Melaka on Saturday night, after a little squabble with my parents about a petty matter. The petty matter is actually about me suffering frequent heartbreaks by being a nice guy, only to be trampled on without mercy. I shall leave this rant for another post. So, yeah. I’m back, and so are most of my friends. Some of them have taken extended leaves this week to compensate having to work/attend lectures last week. It’s a clever move, really, as most people have opted to enjoy the holidays earlier. Therefore those who come back the week after will probably not face the horrendous traffic and angpow-hungry traffic police.
When I reached Melaka, my first priority was to clean the room, but that never materialized at all because I was feeling rather down. To make matters worse, I was unable to turn on my 22″ widescreen monitor. I guessed the wild driving must have done some damage to it. It’s a huge blow to me, because it was one of the most expensive things I’ve ever bought with my own money (that is, money earned by my bare hands).
I spent about two days doing everything online with the remaining 15″ monitor. The smaller monitor has been used for years now, and sometimes it doesn’t adhere to the pre-defined brightness setting. Sometimes parts of the screen will go blur. I have been adamant to fix two monitors in a single workspace, so this monitor remains in my possession. I would have sold it off cheap at some forum.
Came Monday and all the computer shops were open. I brought the faulty monitor and the relevant receipt to inquire about its warranty status. To my delight, the warranty is actually a lifetime warranty. The troubleshooting personnel came and took my monitor in for a quick test. I stood there stunned when I saw the monitor came to life right in front of my eyes. According to the staff there could be a problem with the power cord. He did some trials and found that his deduction was correct. I bought a new power cord for RM15 and happily brought home the monitor. I plugged it back and it worked! Good thing only the power cord succumbed to my reckless driving.
Reckless? I think so, because I did overtake some 15 or so cars along the way. I practically flew on wheels at about 140 kmph. I know it doesn’t sound fast, but for a person who doesn’t speed most of the time, 140 kmph is pretty intimidating. It took me only an hour and 20 minutes to reach Melaka from Batu Pahat, and surprising that didn’t break my record of one hour and 15 minutes. Taking into account the traffic and the untimely traffic lights, I could have reached Melaka about 20 minutes earlier.
Thank God I’m home safe and mentally sound.
I would like to thank Princess who has always been there for me, especially at times when I needed her most.
